The year 2021 marked 100 years since a group of farmers formed Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation (TFBF) with the desire to provide a better way of life for farmers and rural people of Tennessee. A century later, the organization stands strong, but with the same purpose – to serve as the voice of agriculture.

Now, what else has remained the same? No doubt, the organization’s commitment and investment in Tennessee 4-H.

“We understand we wouldn’t be where we are today – 100 years later – without those who paved the way before us,” says Eric Mayberry, president of TFBF. “Now, we believe it is our responsibility to support the next generation, and in my opinion, there is no better way to do so than by investing in 4-H‛ers across Tennessee.”

TFBF is Celebrating the Past 100 Years by Ensuring the Next

For years, TFBF has supported events such as Roundup and Congress, but also several competitions and project areas focused on building leadership and agricultural knowledge. In honor of the 100-year celebration, the organization made a point to look to the future and create special opportunities for funds to be raised directly for 4-H. The “100 for 100” campaign was created to encourage members to donate $100 in honor of the last 100 years. There were also special 100-year rifles auctioned at a few events throughout the year and proceeds went directly to 4-H.

“We can’t celebrate our past without looking to the future, which is why it was perfect to honor and recognize 4-H in 2021. We couldn’t be prouder of the funds we were able to raise, and look forward to continuing our support for the next 100 years,” Mayberry says.

Tennessee Farm Bureau serves as the largest Farm Bureau in the nation, serving more than 680,000 members statewide. Since 1921, the organization has created valuable service companies, but at the core, TFBF aims to provide a better way of life for farmers and rural people of Tennessee.
