Team members include Ella Flynn, Delaney Turner, Graycee West, and Logan West, and coached by Michaela Pedigo brought home the gold from the National Consumer Decision Making Contest.

Macon County's Winning Consumer Decision Making Team

“We competed in Consumer Decision Making as well as the Family and Consumer Science Skillathon and actually won both on the state level,” says Delaney Turner, who won 1st place individual as well. “We were better as a team because we had spent so much time together.”

The Consumer Decision Making contest teaches real-life skills like selecting the best product from a group, how to set a table, and working through specific scenarios, as well as general contest skills like teamwork and giving reasons.

“We were the last contest announced, and we were nervous,” Turner says. “After getting third in the Family and Consumer Science Skillathon, we were a bit bummed, but when they announced we won, we were so surprised and excited because we put in so many hours of work and studying.”
