During the Picnic at the Fair event held during the Wilson County – Tennessee State Fair in August, fun was had, friends fellowshipped and funds were raised for Tennessee 4-H campers.

Emceed by Lelan Statom, senior meteorologist at NewsChannel 5, the event brought together 4-H supporters from across Tennessee for live music, friendly reunions and inspiring messages.

Speakers included Jason Alexander of Farm Credit Mid-America, Dr. Keith Carver of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, Randall Clemmons of the Wilson County – Tennessee State Fair, Alex Snodgrass, the State Council President, and Kaisen Dietz, a Franklin County 4-H’er and recipient of one of the more than 200 camp scholarships awarded in 2025.
Representatives from all four 4-H centers set up camp-style activities that drew kids and adults alike, and more than 500 people attended the fun.

During the Picnic at the Fair, attendees could participate in some 4-H camp fun.
Picnic at the Fair was a Fairly Great Time
The live auction raised $13,025 for camp scholarships. Top bids included $2,800 for a painting by Gabe Harville and $2,500 from Farm Credit Mid-America for Jennifer Wright’s award-winning apple pie.
The successful event saw a 31% increase in funds raised from the 2024 event, totaling $93,000.
A special “thank you” to the planning committee – Phyllis Ferguson, Dan Strasser and Keith Harrison – as well as the sponsors, board members and staff for making the 2025 picnic unforgettable.
